Cultural Diversity Week

Cultural Diversity Week brings together Victorians from all walks of life each March, to promote community harmony and celebrate the many cultures that make our state so vibrant. Each year Maribyrnong City Council encourages, hosts and promotes local celebration of Cultural Diversity Week.

The 2026 theme, ‘Culture connects us all’, highlights how sharing intercultural stories and experiences fosters understanding, belonging and connection.

Multicultural picnic

You’re invited to our beautiful picnic in the park during Cultural Diversity Week in 2026 at Ern Shepherd Reserve next to Maidstone Community Centre.

Community lunch: Eat together

Join us for a free community lunch where you can meet new people and make connections.

Mahjong

Enjoy a relaxed weekly Mahjong group where you can jump straight into this classic Chinese tile game.

Qigong and Tai Chi

Join us in the Footscray Library Courtyard for Qigong and Tai Chi classes! These gentle and safe exercises, originating from China centuries ago, blend body movements, postures, breathing, and mental focus to promote overall health, fitness, and wellbeing.

Workshop for teens: Make a mandala

Get Active Expo

The Get Active Expo is a completely free four-week program that offers a range of come and try sessions. This program is designed to showcase many of Maribyrnong's sport, recreation and wellbeing opportunities.

Bollywood Dance - Get Active Expo 2026

Join us for a vibrant Bollywood Dance class as part of Cultural Diversity Week and the Get Active Expo. This beginner‑friendly session blends classical Indian dance with folk, Latin and hip‑hop influences for a joyful full‑body workout. Celebrate culture and community through energetic, expressive movement.
