A Smart City for Smart Communities Strategic Framework

Smart City Strategic Framework

A Smart City for Smart Communities is a draft Strategic Framework that has been developed to provide a coordinated and clear vision for smart city activity within the City of Maribyrnong.  It will enable Council to build on the strong foundations set by current and past smart city projects.  The draft framework was developed in 2021 and included a period of community consultation which has helped shape the document.

The draft Framework was made available for community feedback between 18 February and 27 March 2022 on Council's community engagement platform, Your City Your Voice.  The feedback will be collated and a final report will be prepared for Council adoption later in 2022.

The draft Framework is based on seven Smart City Principles:

  1. Community First
  2. Innovative
  3. Transparent and Accountable
  4. Sustainable
  5. Collaborative
  6. Outcome Driven Planning
  7. Inclusive.

These principles underpin everything in the draft Framework and feeds into the six strategic themes identified in the draft Framework:

  1. A Place of Vibrancy and Activity
  2. A Resilient and Sustainable Future
  3. An Economy for the Digital Age
  4. An Empowered and Connected Community
  5. A Celebration of Culture and Creativity
  6. A Future Ready Council.

Accompanying this draft Framework will be a Smart City Implementation Plan that will guide the specific actions delivered by Council officers and ensure a robust governance structure is in place to guide smart city projects.  The Implementation Plan will be aligned to the Council planning and budgeting cycles.
