International Women's Day
International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on 8 March and its purpose is to commemorate the movement for women's rights. The day is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and also serves as a call-to-action to progress gender parity.
The 2018 IWD campaign theme is #PressforProgress which is designed to shine a spotlight on gender parity, with an emphasis on gender inclusivity and new gender parity initiatives. The theme offers an important reminder that we are over 200 years away from gender parity according to the World Economic Forum's 2017 Global Gender Gap Report.
The City of Maribyrnong is commemorating International Women’s Day through a number of activities and events that celebrate and honour not only the achievements of women everywhere, but also shines a light on the outstanding women in our community who help to make every day feel like International Women’s Day.
