Changes to Council services over the festive season

Published on 19 December 2022

Over the Christmas and New Year period, the availability of some Council services and the opening hours of some of our facilities will change.

Read more below to see how these changes may impact you.

Waste collection

There are no changes to weekly household waste collections – these will continue as usual throughout the festive season.

There will be no hard waste collections during the week beginning Monday 26 December, and the availability of collections will be reduced during the week beginning Monday 2 January. Collections will return to normal from Monday 9 January.

Waste update 29 December 2022

We appreciate there has been some confusion around waste collections these holidays with the Bins and Recycling app advising a change outside of the normal collection schedule. As a result some household kerbside bins have not been collected. We are remedying that currently.

There are no changes to kerbside waste collections over the festive season. If your bin has been missed, please leave it out and it will be emptied in the next couple of days. Over the weekend and next week, please continue to put your bins out on your normal collection day.

For more information, download our Bins and Recycling app to find your bin collection schedule or visit the website.

Customer Service

On Friday 23 December we will be available via phone from 8.30am-12pm, and in-person at Footscray Library from 10am-5pm.

We will be closed on the public holidays – Monday 26 December, Tuesday 27 December and Monday 2 January.

If you have an urgent matter that cannot wait until the following business day, contact our after-hours service on 9688 0200. The after-hours service can only assist where Council is the responsible provider.

Otherwise, regular business hours apply – 8.30am-5pm via phone, and 10am-5pm in-person at Footscray Library.
