Council has drafted a framework for how we will plan and design community infrastructure in the municipality over the next 20 years.
Community infrastructure are the facilities, services, activities and networks that support the quality of life, resilience and wellbeing of our communities. Locations such as community centres, libraries, playgroups, kindergartens, sporting pavilions and maternal child health are community infrastructure.
The draft Community Infrastructure Planning Framework provides guiding principles and a repeatable planning process that will ensure that Council invests in renewing, upgrading and building new facilities which meet our community’s need.
Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra said feedback from community conversations to develop the Council Plan, Asset Plan, Financial Plan, Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan in 2024 and 2025, as well as the recent Budget engagements, was considered as part of the development of the draft Framework.
“You’ve told us before you supported the ideas of co-locating multiple Council services, maintaining and improving current Council services, and preferred renewal of existing infrastructure before new infrastructure was considered – all to keep up with our growing community,” he said.
“The Framework will ensure community priorities are embedded in any planning and design for the very infrastructure you use.”
Council’s vision is for community infrastructure to be a network of high-quality, welcoming and accessible places where people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can connect, learn, create and thrive.
The Framework identifies ten guiding principles to help guide Council’s approach to the future of community infrastructure. There are six planning principles and four design principles. We have also created a whole-of-organisation approach to the planning and delivery of community infrastructure. From planning to evaluation, the process ensures all community infrastructure projects are held to the same design and delivery standards, for the benefit of the community.
