What to do with found pets

Wandering in the street

If the animal is wandering in the street, note its appearance, the time you saw it, and its location or any nearby landmarks. This information will help our officers locate the animal.

Please note that we may not be able to provide updates, as many animals find their way home or are taken in by another concerned resident.

In your care

If you have taken in a lost animal, please take care when handling it. Lost animals may be frightened and behave unpredictably.

An Animal Management Officer can collect the animal from your home or workplace. We usually respond on the same day.

You can also take the animal to the Lost Dogs Home in North Melbourne, which works with Council to reunite lost pets with their owners or find them a new home.

What to do if your pet is missing

Cats and dogs collected in the City of Maribyrnong are taken to the Lost Dogs Home in North Melbourne. If you think your pet has been collected, please contact the Lost Dogs Home as soon as possible.
