Maribyrnong is proud to welcome and support all residents of all backgrounds. In particular, Council has a strong commitment towards inclusion, equality and pride in our diverse community, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and questioning, and asexual (LGBTIQA+) people, families and communities.

In order to identify tangible actions to strengthen social and economic inclusion for the LGBTIQA+ community and reduce barriers to their participation in the city, Council is developing the LGBTIQA+ Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2025.

We are now inviting the community – and particularly LGBTIQA+ people who live, work, study or recreate in the City of Maribyrnong, as well as their families, allies and local service providers – to contribute their thinking to inform the document.

As well as an online survey, there will also be a number of online focus groups during November where the community can share perspectives that will help shape the future direction of our work with LGBTIQA+ people, families and communities, in a safe space.

Focus group dates: (please register via Your City Your Voice).

  • 13 Nov, 10-11:30am for Rainbow families
  • 16 Nov, 10am-12pm for local service providers
  • 16 Nov, 4-5.30pm for LGBTIQA+ arts and culture interests
  • 17 Nov, 4-5.30pm for LGBTIQA+ sport and recreation interests
  • 22 Nov, 6-7.30pm for LGBTIQA+ people (general, all interests)
  • 23 Nov, 5-6.30pm for LGBTIQA+ younger people under 25
  • 24 Nov, 4-5.30pm for LGBTIQA+ targeted, owned, operated business
  • 25 Nov, 4-5.30pm for LGBTI older people.
