Reporting Racism and Getting Help
Racism happens when someone is treated unfairly because of their race, ethnicity, cultural background, skin colour or religion. It can happen anywhere – at work, school, on public transport, in shops, in public spaces or online.
Racism is not acceptable. Everyone has a role to play in preventing racism, speaking up when it occurs and supporting people who experience it.
Reporting racism and getting support
If you experience or witness racism, there are different ways to report it and access support.
Anti-Racism Victoria provides information about reporting options and support services, helping people understand their options and decide what is right for them.
Maribyrnong Anti-Racism Project
Council partnered with Victoria University to undertake the Maribyrnong Anti-Racism Project, exploring experiences of racism in our community and identifying opportunities to strengthen local efforts to prevent and respond to racism.
The research findings and recommendations were presented to Council at its meeting on 18 August 2026.
Council is now working to implement the report's recommendations, with a focus on embedding anti-racist practice across Council and strengthening community capability, partnerships, reporting and access to support.
This work will help guide Council's ongoing efforts to prevent and respond to racism and strengthen inclusion, belonging and social cohesion across Maribyrnong.
