The Blacksmithing & Metal Art Festival (Blacksmiths Festival) returns to Footscray from 28-29 May 2022 (originally scheduled 19-20 June 2021, but postponed due to COVID restrictions).
The festival features metal forging classes and displays involving coke fires, gas furnaces, hammers, anvils and the display and sale of hand crafted metal art sculptures. Marvel as blacksmiths work together to create a group sculpture that is earmarked to be installed on the new Footscray Wharf, or visit the forged art exhibition called the ‘150 mm challenge’ on display nearby in the Gabriel Gallery at Footscray Community Arts Centre.
There are 'taster' sessions for beginners and a special fire-free kids zone for ages 5-12 to cold forge small items under the guidance of experienced blacksmiths. Live music and quality food and drinks complete this boutique and unique festival on the banks of the Maribyrnong River.
