Libraries are for everyone and should support the needs of their communities, which is why Council is beginning a conversation about how Maribyrnong’s five libraries can continue to support our growing population.

Council is developing a new five-year Library Plan to help guide how we deliver library programs, spaces, services and technology through to 2030.

Our libraries not only house a collection of approximately 140,000 items, they also include a Library of Things with items for the community to borrow, including board games, sustainability devices, health tech and a karaoke machine. There are also more than 1,600 free programs for adults and families across our five library branches each year.

In developing the new Library Plan, we would like to know if there’s something missing, or something you'd love to see – at your local library branch. You don’t have to be a reader, a regular visitor, or even have a library card – just have a vision or an idea on what would encourage you to visit our library branches more

“We want your ideas, experiences and feedback to ensure the plan reflects what matters to our community. Libraries are for everyone – they support learning, connection and creativity and go beyond books and collections,” Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari said.

“Work, study or play, our libraries offer whatever you’re looking for. More than just books, we have computers and Wi-Fi, family programming and events for adults. And the best part it’s all free. So now we want to know if there’s something missing, you’d like to see us offer.”

This is your chance to help shape a library that reflects your needs, interests, and everyday life.  Whether you regularly use the libraries, you have not visited in years, or you have never been – we want to hear from you.

You can visit any one of our five library branches during opening hours to learn more. We also have a number of in-person events and activities where you can chat to us in person:
