Maribyrnong City Council is excited to launch its very first community plan – Maribyrnong 2040. The plan is an overarching strategic document that will guide Council’s long-term planning.

There were over 500 contributions towards the community vision, with consultations centred on what kind of future residents want for the municipality over the next 20 years. It has been written by the community, for the community.

To ensure a broad range of perspectives from the community were captured, a wide range of techniques were utilised to uncover their priorities for the future. These methods included an online survey, community conversation kits, a ‘wishing tree’ mural and facilitated workshops.

An independent Community Panel was then formed and what follows is a community inspired and developed plan for how we see our city in 2040.

Maribyrnong 2040 is guided by five themes:

  1. Enabling active citizenship
  2. Living well
  3. Shaping our natural and built environments
  4. Working and learning
  5. Linking people and places

The Community Plan’s vision is for a City where history and differences are embraced, forming the foundations from which vibrant, diverse and sustainable communities thrive.

A copy of the Community Plan is available on the website: maribyrnong.vic.gov.au/2040 or at one of the City’s community centres or libraries.

A word from the Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam:

Maribyrnong 2040 is a highly valuable document developed through many hours of consultation and deliberation with the community that will help guide Council’s planning for the next twenty years.”

“We sincerely hope that this document will be used now and into the future, not only by Council but by the wider community to guide civic participation and engagement.”
