Following a second conversation with the community, Council has resolved to update the proposed lease agreement terms at the Bulldog’s Children’s Centre in West Footscray.

Of the 157 survey responses, almost two thirds were in favour of a 10-year lease (up from the original 5-year term), while almost one third supported a requirement for the service provider to operate as a not-for-profit.

As previously decided by Council, the new lease will only permit the premises to be approved for a not-for-profit organisation, and there will be no First Right of Refusal clause.

City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari said Council understands local families feel strongly about the Centre and is committed to getting the lease terms right.

“We know Bulldogs Children’s Centre is a cornerstone for many local families, and we’re committed to ensuring the lease supports the community now and into the future,” Mayor Tiwari said.

Based on community feedback and Council’s Lease and Licence Policy, two leasing options were presented at the November Council Meeting. The recommended option – a 10-year lease including tenant-funded capital works – was endorsed by Council.

In line with the requirements of the Local Government Act 2020, Council will now undertake a 28-day public notice period. All submissions received will be carefully considered before a final decision is made on the proposed lease.
