Rock on in Maribyrnong

Council is putting music back in the spotlight with the adopted Live Music Action Plan 2026-28.
Live music is central to the City of Maribyrnong’s identity, economy and sense of place and this document builds on previous plans and the Creative Maribyrnong 2030 Strategy.
“Council plays a key role in enabling great gigs in our City, and this plan – shaped with feedback from our community – will guide how we support venues and artists over the next two years,” said Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari.
The draft Live Music Action Plan was shared in August and received 56 online contributions via Your City Your Voice. There were also 88 interactions at the three dedicated in-person events and direct engagement with venue operators, promoters and performers across the City.
Feedback called for more live music generally (including in the Footscray CBD) and support for more music festivals.
Key take outs from the Plan include a new live grants scheme, which will incentivise more programming of original live music in local venues, a music industry conference for Melbourne’s West that rivals Queensland’s ‘Big Sound’, and the attraction of new major national and international music festivals for both Footscray Park and Yarraville Gardens.
Through this Plan, Council seeks to continue building on current momentum in this space hosting sought after international acts like Dom Dolla, Kiki, and upcoming events with Rufus Du Sol, Dangerous Goods, and Dekmantel Festival.
