Making waves on the MAC Splash Park project
Published on 20 April 2026
Construction is progressing well on two new water slides and a splash park at Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre (MAC).
“The MAC Splash Park is a key project in our City, providing new facilities for our community - especially young people - to enjoy,” said Mayor Cr Mohamed Semra.
The $16 million project will transform the northern corner of the MAC with new accessible change rooms, the indoor splash park and slides.
Our contractor has been busy preparing the piers and essential in-ground infrastructure on site.
We expect to see the works come up out of the ground in the second half of this year and major developments like the steel framing, glass and roofing for the slide structure taking shape at the end of the year.
The project is also part of Council’s transition away from gas and includes all-electric components.
“We will be switching MAC from gas to electricity, saving money and aligning with our net-zero emissions strategy,” said Mayor Semra.
The splash park and water slides are scheduled to open from mid-2027.
This project is jointly funded by the State Government and Maribyrnong City Council.
