Hot Topics

Hot Topics May 2018 image

Join us for our first event of the year for Hot Topics.

Hot Topics is a committee of young people who are passionate about creating conversational events around issues that are important and impact young people in their lives.

Our first Hot Topic is part of the Emerge in the West Festival and is on mental health and migrant and refugee young people. It is a hot topic and a topic not talked about enough. Mental health is stigmatised in our society. We want to debunk myths and stories and get real people talking about the issues in a safe, welcoming area.

The Hot Topics team want to raise the awareness of mental health especially for young people from young migrant and refugee backgrounds where the intersections of settlement, immigration and assimilation are important factors.

The event will feature spoken word, film, music and a panel discussion. Come to hear stories and tap into each other’s very diverse experiences of mental health and what it means to us. Please make sure to register to be a part of the discussion involved in the night and potentially share your story in our open mic session to empower others and empower yourself.

Register on our Eventbrite page to secure your place. Dinner will be provided and we would love to see you there so we can talk about this hot topic collectively, so make sure to register.
