Amendment C159 - Corrections to Public Parks and Recreation Zones

Current status: The Amendment was approved by the Minister for Planning and has been gazetted.

There are different types of zones for various land uses around the City (such as commercial zones, residential zones, open space etc). These zones specify how the land can be used and what permits are required under the Maribyrnong Planning Scheme.

Amendment C159 corrects inconsistencies for 25 sites where the existing zone did not reflect the existing or intended use of the land. These inconsistencies included private land with existing residences in a Public Park and Recreation Zone (PPRZ), and existing parks zoned for residential use. Amendment C159 rezoned these 25 sites to the appropriate zones that makes them formally the same as their existing use. The Amendment did not introduce new policy and was routine and administrative in nature.

About the Amendment

The Amendment amended the Maribyrnong Planning Scheme by:

  • Amending the "Land Use Framework Plan" in Clause 21.03 (Council Vision) and "Settlement Framework Plan" in Clause 21.04 (Settlement) to update the open space areas.
  • Rezoning land from General Residential Zone 1 (GRZ1) to PPRZ. These sites were in the GRZ1 but are public open space reserves. The Amendment rezoned them to PPRZ in accordance with their existing use.
