Community members are invited to pause, reflect and show respect on 26 January.
This day can mean different things to different people. For some, it is a day of celebration. For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, it is a day of mourning and reflection.
Aboriginal people of the Kulin Nation have lived in the Maribyrnong River valley for at least 40,000 years. Lowering the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at half-mast recognises the grief and loss caused by colonisation, including the lasting impacts on First Nations peoples and the Stolen Generations.
