Council is now inviting library lovers, and the wider Maribyrnong community, to have their say on the draft Library Plan (2023-25) which aims to future-proof our much loved libraries and their offerings.

City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Sarah Carter, said Maribyrnong’s libraries are much valued community assets that need to continue to grow and evolve to ensure their services keep up with demographic and technological changes.

“Last year, our five library branches welcomed over 200,000 visitors who loaned over 400,000 books and resources,” said Mayor Carter. “We know that libraries provide critical resources and services that help our community thrive.”

“That’s why Council has drafted a new Library Plan (2023-2025) to identify key actions and strategies to help improve our libraries,” she continued.

In late 2022, Council spoke to over 1,300 community members who provided nearly 4,000 comments to help us shape this plan.

We heard about what you currently think about Maribyrnong libraries and what your aspirations are for the future of our library spaces, resources and programs. We have incorporated this feedback, along with an internal review, to inform a range of proposed actions that we will pursue over the next few years to ensure our libraries remain customer-focused and are the best they can be.

“I encourage everyone to take a look at the draft Library Plan (2023-25) and provide your feedback. This will ensure our actions over the next few years are shaped by the community – our library’s most valued customer,” said Mayor Carter. “And I would like to thank all those who shared their ideas and feedback which has helped inform the draft Plan.”

Please visit yourcityyourvoice.com.au/Library-Plan for more information and share your feedback.

Feedback closes midnight Wednesday 10 May 2023.
