Bin lid updates rolling out across the municipality

Council will begin updating household bin lids from early June to align with State Government lid standardisation requirements.

The changes will take place over a six to eight week period, starting in June and continuing into early August. Crews will target collection days so bins can be updated while empty and placed on the kerb. Residents will not need to take any additional action.

As part of the rollout:

  • Dark green general rubbish bins and skip lids will be changed to red lids. Older grey or dark green food and garden organics (FOGO) bins will receive new lime green lids.

  • Bins still displaying “garden waste only” on the lid will receive an updated sticker reflecting the current service. Both food and garden waste are accepted. In most cases, these bins will not require a lid replacement unless the bin is damaged, in which case it will be swapped for a new bin.

Council crews will visit collection areas more than once during the rollout to make sure all bins that need updating are changed over.

Residents will receive a notification tag on their bin if any changes have been made.

The statewide bin lid colour standardisation aims to create a more consistent recycling and waste system across Victoria, making it easier for households to sort their waste correctly and reduce contamination.
