Local residents and the Maribyrnong Neighbourhood Flood Network, supported by Council and VICSES, have come together to create a draft Community Flood Plan to better prepare us for a future flood event.

The draft Plan has been developed by local community leaders to help build awareness of flood risk, support preparedness, and share local content with emergency management agencies.

The draft Community Flood Plan is based on the following principles:

  • collaboration
  • innovation
  • recognising complexity and uniqueness of communities
  • looking at strengths from within a community

“Flood preparedness is a shared responsibility and community knowledge matters. Your feedback will help make the Community Flood Plan clearer, more practical and more inclusive,” Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra said.

Meet members of the Neighbourhood Flood Network, learn more about the draft Community Flood Plan, and test the Plan through a short scenario at the following events:

  • Saturday 18 April from 5pm – movie screening at Coulson Gardens
  • Saturday 2 May 1-3pm – scenario-based workshop at the Avondale Heights Library and Learning Centre

Learn more about the draft Community Flood Plan and share your feedback at yourcityyourvoice.com.au/mcfp

Feedback closes midnight Sunday 17 May 2026.
