Get set for a family-friendly afternoon of music and live performance next to Footscray Library on Saturday 6 April.

Headlined by acclaimed artist Jen Cloher joined by T’HONI, Get a Taste of Creative West will feature an eclectic line up of contemporary music, circus performances, puppet shows and dance.  This event will showcase Creative West’s potential to enhance Footscray's status as a vibrant hub for art and culture by spotlighting our local artists and performers.

The Creative West project will address a significant regional gap for performers and audiences alike. There is only one performing arts theatre that can seat over 500 people in Melbourne’s greater western region, which by 2036 will have a larger population than present day metropolitan Adelaide.

Speaking about the event, Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam emphasised the significance of Creative West for Footscray's cultural evolution.

"Footscray has already established itself as the creative hub of the West, but it lacks the infrastructure that would allow creative industries to truly thrive. Council is advocating for Creative West – a new library, performance venue, green space, and place of culture and innovation for the community.”

Get a Taste of Creative West is a long-awaited opportunity for residents and visitors to discover the possibilities and creative futures that would emerge from Creative West. This free event will showcase a mix of performances and arts experiences including a Library in the Park offering craft activities for the little ones, feminist artistry by Women’s Circus, physical theatre by Snuff Puppets and dance by L2R. J Award winner, Jen Cloher and their five-piece band will be joined by T’HONI, a Melbourne-based Māori cultural performance group known for their energy and passion.

Mayor Lam is thrilled to see the potential of a new creative hub unleashed.

“Footscray's creative journey is only just beginning, don’t miss out on the chance to be a part of it. Head to the Footscray Library carpark from 2.30pm to 6pm on Saturday 6 April to explore the countless benefits our community stands to gain through the establishment of Creative West."
