Maribyrnong Libraries plan for a creative and connected future

Following two positive conversations with the community, Council has now endorsed the Libraries Strategic Plan 2026-30, which outlines its commitment to a creative and connected community.
City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra, said our libraries are vital community infrastructure that respond to the evolving needs of residents.
“Our libraries, alongside Council’s community centres, play a central role in the life of our City. We are excited to continue delivering exceptional services and programs that reflect the aspirations of our community now and into the future,” Mayor Semra said.
“The Strategic Plan will guide library services, programs and facilities over the next five years, ensuring Maribyrnong continues to be a place where everyone can learn, create and connect,” he continued.
Focusing on three key goals, the Strategic Plan aims to make libraries welcoming spaces where all community members feel included; strengthen connections by linking people to information, resources and to each other; and inspire creativity and learning through programs and experiences that spark curiosity and support discovery.
Maribyrnong Libraries provide safe and welcoming spaces that build community capacity by helping people improve their knowledge and skills while offering access to books, information and resources.
The library collection includes more than 160,000 items, and programs are offered for adults, young adults and families, providing opportunities to learn, create and connect. Services are delivered across five branches, online, and out in the community, with library membership available to anyone who lives, works, studies or plays within Maribyrnong.
