Maribyrnong is inviting the community to celebrate local stars – the volunteers, innovators, leaders, and quiet achievers who bring a little magic to everyday life.

Two new award categories and a reviewed Creative Maribyrnong award will see this year’s Maribyrnong Civic Awards shine a light on the people who make our City a better, fairer, and more creative place to live.

The annual Civic Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of people who live, work, study, or volunteer in Maribyrnong. Nominations are now open across all categories, including two new additions and one special renaming.

Council has reshaped its Arts Award to the Creative Maribyrnong Award to further recognise individuals or groups whose creative, cultural or artistic contributions enrich our City and inspire community connection.

The Sustainability and Climate Leadership Award will honour those taking action on climate change – from innovative projects to grassroots initiatives, helping build a greener, more sustainable future for Maribyrnong.

In a heartfelt tribute to the late Sarah Carter, former Councillor and three-time Mayor, Council has introduced the Sarah Carter Gender Equity Award. The renaming honours Sarah’s enduring legacy as a passionate advocate for equality, inclusion and opportunity for all.

Award nominees will be invited to a civic event to be held in early 2026 where recipients will be presented with their awards. During the ceremony, the Mayor also awards the Mayoral Award to an individual, community group or organisation for outstanding contributions to the City and in the lives of others.

Nominations close 12am Sunday 14 December 2025. For more information and to nominate, visit: www.maribyrnong.vic.gov.au/civicawards2026
