Council is calling on young people aged 12 to 25, as well as parents, carers, people who work with young people and the broader community, to help shape the future of Phoenix Youth Hub.

City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra, said changes are coming to Phoenix and young people’s voices will be central to the next chapter.

“This is a chance for young people to tell us what would make it a place they want to be,” said Mayor Semra.

“We want to know what would make you feel welcome, excited and supported – whether that’s new programs, different spaces, or something completely new,” he continued.

Phoenix Youth Hub is Maribyrnong’s dedicated space for young people aged 12-25 who live, work or study in the area. Currently the venue offers a broad range of programs and spaces including weekly afterschool drop-in sessions, Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee meetings, a gallery space, and a sound-proof bunker for jam sessions and podcast recording.

This conversation builds on a 2024 internal review of Youth Services, which involved young people, parents and carers, teachers, and service providers. The review highlighted strong interest in using Phoenix spaces, growing demand for youth services across the City, and a need to better promote what Phoenix offers.

One clear idea from the 2024 internal review was an afterschool drop-in program. That idea became reality in October 2025, with weekly Thursday sessions now running at Phoenix.

The review also confirmed that many existing Phoenix services and programs are valued – while showing there’s an opportunity to reimagine parts of the space to better support young people’s changing needs.

Since March 2025, Council has continued listening through the newly launched Youth Hub, an extension of Phoenix, which has gathered feedback from young people across the City. Now, Council is inviting more voices to join the conversation.

Young people, along with all community members, are encouraged to share their ideas before midnight Sunday 29 March 2026 at https://www.yourcityyourvoice.com.au/phoenix
