Quarry Park is set to reopen this week following the second round of capping works.
Quarry Park is a key reserve featuring mountain bike trails, the Melbourne Korean War Memorial, and Merv Hughes Oval.
The capping was required to meet compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency and to make the former quarry and landfill site accessible for community use.
Initial capping in 2019 focussed on the western and northern sides of the Park and this second and final round of capping added 50 centimetres of new compacted earth over approximately 3.25 hectares in the eastern and southern part of the park.
This new soil was seeded with grass earlier this year and, after a few months to let the grass grow, the site is ready for our community to enjoy.
These essential works tie in with our current review of Quarry Park’s Maser Plan, which is open for feedback until 14 December.
This Master Plan review is your opportunity to tell us what you love about this space and what you think might be missing.
