Working with men and boys
Council is committed to working with men and boys as important partners in building a safer, more equal and respectful community. By supporting positive, healthy expressions of masculinity and creating opportunities for men and boys to engage in conversations about respect, equity and non-violence, Council aims to challenge harmful gender stereotypes before they take hold. This work recognises that men and boys have a vital role to play in preventing gender-based violence, promoting respectful relationships, and contributing to a community where everyone can participate, feel safe and thrive.
The Caring Men’s Project
The Caring Men’s Project is a Council-led initiative, delivered in partnership with The Men’s Project in October 2026, that will engage men and boys as active partners in creating a safer, more equal and respectful community. The project will promote healthy, caring and accountable expressions of masculinity, support conversations about respect and non-violence, and encourage men to take positive action in preventing gender-based violence and strengthening respectful relationships across the community.
Maribyrnong City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from men who are passionate about creating respectful and caring communities.
This program will work with up to 25 men from across the City of Maribyrnong to build their understanding of positive male role modelling and violence prevention and support them to create change within their communities. Please click on this link for more details.
Eligibility
- Aged 18 years or older
- Live, work, play or volunteer in Maribyrnong
- Connected to a community, sporting, cultural, faith, education or business network
- Interested in supporting caring and respectful communities
- Able to attend training and follow up sessions.
