McIvor Reserve Master Plan Implementation

McIvor Reserve

McIvor Reserve plays an important role for sport and all kinds of recreation in Maribyrnong.

The reserve sits between Francis Street and the Westgate Freeway with the Yarraville Footscray Bowling Club to the north, residential properties to the east and the Bradmill residential site to the west.

It is home to a hockey, cricket, soccer, AFL, baseball and lawn bowls and features a children’s playground, open space for casual users, and popular off-leash dog park.

The McIvor Reserve Master Plan was endorsed in 2023 and guides future development at the reserve.

What's up next

Over the next 12 months Frasers Development and Council will be completing work on the site. The map below shows where some of these works are happening and when they will happen.

Map information

Section 1

This area will become a temporary car park as part of works by Frasers Development. Work is expected to happen between July and August 2026. Read the Temporary Car Park tab.

Section 2

This area will include a new shared path to extend the dog park as part of works by Frasers Development. Parts of Bradmill Boulevard and the dog park may be closed during the work. Work is expected to happen between July and August 2026. Read the Temporary Car Park tab.

Section 3

This part of the dog park will be upgraded in early 2027 by Council following engagement in 2026. This section will be closed during the works. Read the Dog Park tab.

Section 4

This part of the dog park will remain open to the public until the stadium is built. Read the Stadium Advocacy tab.

Upcoming projects at McIvor Reserve

Sports Fields

This project is now in the Detailed Design phase

The McIvor Reserve open space sports fields will soon be receiving a compete re-design, including:

  • new sports field alignment 
  • upgraded irrigation
  • new subsurface drainage
  • new turf
  • upgraded lighting
  • adjoining landscaping, path connections and tree planting

The design is packaged with the Western and Southern carpark design and is expected to be completed within the 2025/2026 financial year. 

This project is for design only and construction is subject to a future budget allocation.

Related works include:

New cricket turf practice pitches, and a new turf maintenance shed.
Redesign and upgrade floodlighting on the open sports field area to meet minimum Australian standards. Relocate existing light tower where required to accommodate new facilities.
Remove turf wicket equipment shed and install an outdoor gym.
Realign the path along the hockey precinct perimeter fence and plant additional trees to frame the open sports field area.
Create four cricket grounds that each have a minimum boundary radius of 50m that do not overlap.
Existing turf centre wicket in the south-east to be relocated to the north-east, and a synthetic pitch installed alongside it.
Install additional path lighting and lighting in car park directly servicing pavilions/ clubrooms.
Install additional bench seating around the perimeter.

 

Western and Southern Car Park

This project is now in the Design phase

 Western Car Park Design 

Following construction of the new Bradmill Boulevard within the Bradmill site, Council has commenced the design development of the Western car park to service the Dog park, open space sports fields, Soccer facilities and the future stadium project. Details regarding the car park design and implementation will be provided in early 2026.

Related works include:

Advocating to power authority to consolidate two rows of above-ground powerlines into one underground line.
Install additional path and car park lighting to service pavilions and club rooms.
Improve parking along the west side of Gent Street to act as overflow parking during events.

Pending future budget allocation.
Include tree planting and Water Sensitive Urban Design principles in new and existing car parks.

 

McIvor Dog Park upgrade

This project is now in the Detailed Design phase

Council is upgrading the McIvor Reserve Dog Park following conversations with the community.

Council has endorsed the concept design and is now in the detailed design phase. 

The endorsed concept plan includes new agility equipment, a sheltered area and a new access point on Bradmill Boulevard.

Stadium Advocacy

This project is now in the Advocacy phase

Council is advocating for funding to support the design and construction of a new 6-court indoor sports centre, with all access from the Bradmill Boulevard side of the building. This project would include new change rooms, and public toilets to service the western grounds at the reserve. Concept designs for the proposed McIvor Reserve Indoor Sports Stadium were released in June 2026 to support the advocacy phase.

Temporary Car Park

Works will soon begin on a temporary car park along the western boundary of McIvor Reserve. These are make good works by the Developer as a condition of the Planning Permit and will replace the previous informal parking for the dog park and western side of the sports fields. 

Works to realign the footpath and extending out the dog park fenceline inline with the concept design are also included as part of these works.

Works are planned to begin on Friday 10 July and be completed in late-August 2026. 

This temporary car park will eventually be replaced by a permanent car park along the western edge of the reserve as shown in the endorsed Master Plan.

The temporary car park is jointly funded by Frasers Property Group and Maribyrnong City Council.

Completed projects at McIvor Reserve

2023 McIvor Reserve Master Plan

In 2023 Council endorsed a master plan for McIvor Reserve. The Masterplan provided a framework for ongoing development at the reserve which included:

  • Upgrading the playground to a regional standard in line with recommendations in Play Maribyrnong, Council's Playground Improvement Plan 2016-26
  • Improving visitor amenities
  • Improved path construction and renewal
  • Tree planting
  • Installation of path lighting
  • Public use playing courts
  • Carpark upgrades

Hanks Reserve Irrigation Upgrades

Irrigation works were completed to the inner diamond of Hanks Reserve in 2023. 

YGFC and Hockey Fencing Upgrade

Improved barrier fencing to both Hockey and Soccer facilities was completed in 2024.

Yarraville Glory FC Female Friendly Change Rooms Project

Works complete

Recognising the need for compliant and accessible change rooms, the project provided two female-friendly change rooms, two amenities' rooms and a store room. These upgrades were supported by a $1 million grant from the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.

As part of the project, a new LED scoreboard has been installed and a new goal storage adjacent to the field will be constructed in 2026.

Bradmill Boulevard and signalised intersection

Frasers Property Group have built Bradmill Boulevard which will provide access to new parking along the western edge of the reserve. These works also include the signalised intersection and pedestrian crossing on Francis Street.
