McIvor Reserve Indoor Sports Stadium

Council has released concept designs for the proposed McIvor Reserve Indoor Sports Stadium. Concept designs are early-stage drawings that show the general layout and look of a project.

The designs show how a two-storey, six-court indoor sports stadium could be accommodated within the reserve. They build on the McIvor Reserve Master Plan endorsed by Council in March 2023 and have been prepared to support advocacy and funding opportunities.

McIvor Reserve is already an active sport and recreation precinct, with sports ovals, club facilities, a dog park and spaces for informal community use. The proposed indoor courts would build on this existing role and support the Reserve’s transformation into a modern, multi-sport precinct for local clubs, schools, families and the wider community.

The six-court stadium would help meet growing demand for indoor sport and recreation facilities in Melbourne’s west, support local clubs and associations, and provide space for a broader range of community activities, competitions and events. The indoor stadium would give local families, clubs and schools access to indoor sport close to home.

Key features of the preferred concept design include:

  • A two-storey, six-court indoor sports stadium
  • A ground floor footprint of 7,600m², which is below the 7,700m² maximum identified in the Master Plan and helps minimise impacts on open space
  • A reduced southern footprint, which would retain about 20 more trees than the Master Plan design, with at least two replacement trees planted for every tree removed
  • Acoustic treatments on elevations facing residential areas and the Bowls Club
  • Dedicated community spaces to help address the identified shortfall of accessible community spaces in the south-west of the municipality
  • A flexible 3+3 court layout to support a range of sports, competitions and programming needs
  • Externally accessible change facilities to support broader use of the reserve.

These are concept designs only and do not represent a final design. They will inform future planning, advocacy and funding applications. Once funding is secured, detailed design and further project development would follow. This would include further engagement with the community.

The stadium is expected to cost around $60 million. Progression to detailed design and construction would be subject to funding support from the State and Federal Governments. Council has committed $2.5 million towards detailed design, subject to a matching contribution from the State Government.

Council is inviting the community to review the concept designs and provide comment on the proposed floor plan and current design thinking.
