Creative West Nights will transform the Footscray Library courtyard into a warm, intimate and immersive Friday night destination.

Running across four Friday nights from 28 August to 18 September 2026, the free series brings together music, spoken word, Afro beats and comedy to showcase the creative energy of the west.

Each week offers a different line-up and vibe:

  • Footscray Unplugged with Ella Thompson Chamber Soul Trio, Ruby Gill and Grace Robinson
  • Words by Candlelight with Konker Malual, Zaynab Farah, Wani Toaishara, John Englezos and Fleassy Malay
  • Afro Beats with Sam Manzanza and Jarabi Band
  • Comedy Roast with Geraldine Quinn, William Wang, Oliver Clark and MC Lauren Bok.

Grab a drink or bite from a local food truck, discover local talent and make a night of it by visiting nearby bars, restaurants and traders. Creative West Nights is a taste of what Footscray could become with Creative West — a new cultural precinct designed to support local creativity, night-time activity and a stronger CBD.

Footscray Unplugged – Friday 28 August 2026

Ease into the weekend with Footscray Unplugged, an intimate evening of live music in the Footscray Library courtyard. Headlined by Ella Thompson Chamber Soul Trio, with support from Ruby Gill and Grace Robinson, this opening night celebrates local voices, warm sounds and the creative spirit of the west.

Words by Candlelight – Friday 4 September 2026

Settle in for an atmospheric night of poetry, storytelling and spoken word at Words by Candlelight. Featuring Konker Malual, Zaynab Farah, Wani Toaishara, John Englezos and Fleassy Malay, this intimate evening brings powerful voices and local stories to the heart of Footscray.

Afro Beats – Friday 11 September 2026

Feel the rhythm of the west at Afro Beats, a high-energy night led by Sam Manzanza with support from Jarabi Band. Expect vibrant live music, community connection and an irresistible Friday night atmosphere in the Footscray Library courtyard.

Comedy Roast – Friday 18 September 2026

Close out Creative West Nights with laughs under the lights at Comedy Roast. Headlined by Geraldine Quinn, with William Wang, Oliver Clark and MC Lauren Bok, this final Friday night local energy and plenty of westside wit.
