Against the Wind

Untitled design.png

Photo-Media Artist Jody Haines proudly presents Against the Wind, an immersive installation that intertwines art, culture, and nature. Created in collaboration with contemporary Indigenous dancers and choreographers Zoë Brown-Holten and Amelia O'Leary, this immersive experience delves into the depths of relationships and connection to Country.

Within the space, strategically placed projections transport viewers into a world where the spirit of Country comes alive. Filmed on tommeginne lands in lutruwita/Tasmania, the primary projection embodies the artist being on Country. Complementing this are eight custom-made structures, standing three meters tall and 1.5 meters wide, serving as projection surfaces for the captivating movements choreographed by Zoë Brown-Holten and Amelia O'Leary. As visitors embark on this visual journey, they will be enveloped by a soundscape and the aromas of gum and wood.

The season runs from 7 - 9 July 2023 at the Bluestone Church Arts Space, with screenings every 15 minutes from 11.30 am - 6.00 pm

This project was generously funded through the Maribyrnong City Council First Nation Creators Grant, and Platform Arts LAB residency.
