Festive season changes to Council facilities

The availability and opening hours of some Council services and facilities will change over the Christmas and New Year’s period.

Waste collection

Kerbside bin collections from 25 December to 5 January will take place one day later than usual.

There will be no bin deliveries or repairs on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.

There will be no hard waste collections between 25 December and 1 January, inclusive. The regular service will resume 8 January with some limited collections from 2 January.

Customer Service

We will be closed on the public holidays – Monday 25 December, Tuesday 26 December, and Monday 1 January.

Otherwise, regular business hours apply – 8.30am-5pm via phone, and 10am-5pm in-person at Footscray Library.

If you have an urgent matter on any of the public holidays that cannot wait until the next business day, contact our after-hours service on 9688 0200. The after-hours service can only assist where Council is the responsible provider.

MyMaribyrnong is an online portal where residents can self-manage transactions and interactions with Council at the click of a mouse, including paying for animal registrations, applying for parking permits, checking bin collection schedules or logging service requests.

Libraries

Over the holiday period, Footscray Library will open with limited hours. Braybrook, Maribyrnong, West Footscray and Yarraville libraries will all close at 2pm on Saturday 23 December and reopen at 10am on Tuesday 2 January.

• Saturday 23 December: all libraries open for usual hours.
• Sunday 24 to Tuesday 26 December: all libraries closed.
• Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 December: Footscray Library open 10am-5pm.
• Sunday 31 December to Monday 1 January: all libraries closed.
• Tuesday 2 January: all libraries resume usual opening hours.

Library return chutes will be open, and all loans are extended until Tuesday 2 January. Our eLibrary is open 24/7.

Community Centres

• Maribyrnong Community Centre will close at 5pm on Thursday 21 December and reopen on Monday 8 January.
• Maidstone Community Centre will close at 5pm on Thursday 21 December and reopen on Monday 15 January.
• Braybrook Community Centre will close at 5pm on Thursday 21 December and reopen on Wednesday 27 December.

Phoenix Youth Hub

Phoenix Youth Hub will close at 12pm on Friday 22 December and reopen on Tuesday 2 January.

Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre

Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre will remain open with modified hours over the festive season, except for closures on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Childcare will be closed on from Friday 22 December, and reopen on Monday 8 January.
