Channelling the tight-knit nature of the inner-west, Council is continuing its campaign to drive up vaccination rates leveraging personal quotes and anecdotes from community members and business owners reiterating the importance of vaccinating to protect our community and enjoy ongoing freedoms.

80.8% of the eligible population in Maribyrnong has now received a first dose and 62.8% a second dose (as at 18 October 2021), according to the Australian Department of Health,

City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Michael Clarke, is in no doubt the strength and connection of the Maribyrnong community is behind the sharp increase in vaccination rates within the City.

“From 50.8% first dose and 31.2% fully vaccinated on 28 August to 82.8% first dose and 70.5% fully vaccinated on 24 October in a matter of months, is a significant achievement,” Cr Clarke said.

“Our whole community is playing its part with this whopping 30% jump in first and second dose rates,” he said. “I am beyond proud, however we are not safe until we are all safe and there is still work to be done to reach all corners of our community,” Cr Clarke continued.

Council has supported recent pop-up clinics at places of worship and Whitten Oval and facilitated information for our multicultural communities to help boost our vaccination figures. And over the coming weeks, Council, along with The Victorian Department of Health, Cohealth and Western Health will be hosting additional neighbourhood pop-up clinics with a continued focus on reaching Maribyrnong’s English as second language residents.

Again a feature of these pop-ups will be attendance of bilingual workers and interpreters to answer any questions or concerns any residents may have. “No one will get left behind!” Cr Clarke emphasised.
