Council endorsed two important policies aimed at levelling the playing field for electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the City of Maribyrnong, and women and girls’ access to sports and recreation infrastructure in our municipality.

The two endorsed policies follow a community conversation for each, ensuring our residents had shared their thoughts on the future of the environment and sport and recreation in our community.

Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam said these two policies would “cement Council’s position on ensuring we all play a part in improving different aspects of living in a modern, progressive, and socially and environmentally-sustainable way. Endorsing these policies is an exciting step forward for the future of our environment and gender equality in sports and recreation.”

Fair Access Policy

The Fair Access Policy seeks to address barriers experienced by women and girls in accessing and using community sport and recreational infrastructure. To support this Policy, an action plan outlining the actions Council will take to future improve access to and use of community sporting infrastructure has also been developed.

The Policy and action plan form part of the Change our Game initiative that aims to give women and girls better and fairer access to community sports infrastructure.

Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Policy 2024

The EV market has experienced significant change since the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Policy was first adopted in September 2020.

Following a review, the updated Policy articulates Council’s role in supporting the installation of EV charging infrastructure in the municipality. Based on community feedback earlier this year, there have been some small revisions to the wording.

The first public EV chargers for the municipality has also been installed in the Raleigh Street carpark, Footscray.
