Council is inviting children, young people, families and service providers to share their experiences as part of a review into how Maribyrnong supports its youngest community members and their caregivers.

At the midpoint of Council’s Family, Youth and Children Strategy 2030, the review will help shape practical actions that reflect the needs of families today – ensuring children and young people have the best possible start in Maribyrnong.

Council is calling on families, carers, service providers and young people to have their say on what is working well, what could be improved, and what support will be needed into the future.

City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Mohamed Semra, said hearing directly from the community is essential to building a City where children and families can thrive.

“Every child deserves the best start in life, and that begins with listening – to young people, to families and to carers about their real experiences,” Mayor Semra said.

“We want to hear directly from children and young people about what makes them feel safe, welcome and happy, as well as from families about what supports them in daily life,” he continued. “These insights will help us shape services, spaces and programs that genuinely reflect what our community needs now and into the future.”

The review will focus on listening to the community to understand current experiences and identify practical actions Council can take or support. Consultation will explore a range of topics, including access to services, community spaces, wellbeing supports, and how Council can better respond to the changing needs of families.

Children and young people will also be encouraged to participate through fun and age-appropriate activities such as drawing, mapping and creative sessions, giving them meaningful ways to share their ideas.

Feedback gathered during this phase will be analysed and used to help inform an updated Action Plan under the Strategy. Council will report back to the community on what was heard, what will change, and where further advocacy is needed.

Community members and service providers can get involved by sharing their feedback online, attending an event, or contacting Council’s Community Wellbeing team. To have your say, visit yourcityyourvoice.com.au/children by midnight Sunday 28 June 2026.
