Council has endorsed the members of a steering group to strengthen connections and collaborations across stakeholders, with the aim of having a structured approach to revitalisation in Footscray CBD.

Ten members – who are related to Footscray through business, property or as residents – were endorsed for the Future Footscray Steering Group, which was established in 2024 by the State Member for Footscray, Katie Hall MP. Council was asked in 2025 to take over the ongoing stewardship of the group.

The Terms of Reference for the steering group were adopted in September 2025, and an Expression of Interest process was undertaken to fill the representative positions in the group.

The Independent chair of the Steering Group is Stephen Sully, who will serve in the position until 30 June 2027. Throughout his 40-year career, Mr Sully has successfully implemented projects, attracted investment and development, inspired communities, and convinced business, government and fellow professionals of the benefits of strategic urban and regional development.

The other Steering Group members endorsed at yesterday’s Council meeting were Peta Clair Brunel, Anthony Cavallaro, Donna Chow, Azhar Habib, Tania Kaniz, Konker Malual, Matthew O’Keefe, Jack Roebuck, Garry Williams and Nagwa Yassin.

Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra, and Cr Bernadette Thomas will also serve on in the group.

“The Future Footscray Steering Group will continue on as a forum to bring together key stakeholders to support the revitalisation of Footscray CBD. We will continue to work together to enable the Footscray CBD to achieve its full potential,” Mayor Semra said.
