Council endorsed several crucial plans and policies aimed at enhancing community wellbeing and sustainability for the future of Maribyrnong at the May Council Meeting. These initiatives underscore Council’s commitment to proactive governance and responsive decision-making.
Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam spoke to the significance of these decisions, saying "as stewards of our community's environment and wellbeing, it is imperative we adopt proactive measures to address present challenges and secure a sustainable future for all. Endorsing these plans and policies is a critical step in shaping a bright future for our municipality.”
Integrated Water Management Plan 2023-2033
The Integrated Water Management Plan 2023-2033 reflects Council's dedication to water stewardship and climate resilience. Following engagement with key stakeholders, including the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Melbourne Water, and the community, the Plan has been refined to address pressing challenges such as population growth, increased water demand, and climate change impacts.
The Plan outlines strategic actions to improve water efficiency, diversify water sources, enhance waterway and wetland health, and mitigate urban heat, positioning Council to safeguard the future of our water for generations to come.
Reducing Harm from Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy 2023-2028
Council’s endorsement of the Reducing Harm from Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy 2023-2028 reaffirms its dedication to public health and social wellbeing, and commitment to creating safer and healthier communities for all residents. Informed by community input and aligned with legislative frameworks, this Policy prioritises harm minimisation strategies to address the multifaceted impacts of alcohol and drug use.
Election Period Policy (Governance Rules)
In adherence with the Local Government Act 2020, Council has adopted an Election Period Policy to ensure the integrity and transparency of local government elections. The Policy has been fine tuned to reflect best practice and support fair electoral processes.
Public Transparency Policy
Transparency and accountability are cornerstones of effective governance, and Council’s adoption of the Public Transparency Policy demonstrates its commitment to open and accessible government. By detailing clear guidelines for information sharing and promoting public engagement, this Policy promotes trust and confidence in municipal decision-making processes.
