Published on 23 July 2026
People experiencing homelessness in Maribyrnong will soon have access to additional support, following the State Government's announcement of funding for a new homelessness outreach service.
Maribyrnong is one of 10 locations across Victoria to receive a new outreach service as part of the $27.8 million investment in homelessness support. The services will help people sleeping rough access stable housing, health care and other support services.
City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra, welcomed the announcement and the positive impact it will have for vulnerable members of the community.
"Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. This investment is a positive step in helping people experiencing homelessness access the support they need to improve their wellbeing and secure stable housing,” Mayor Semra said.
"Homelessness is a complex issue that requires collaboration across all levels of government and the community sector. We welcome this investment and look forward to seeing the benefits it will bring to our municipality.
"I'd also like to acknowledge LeadWest for its advocacy on this issue, and in particular LeadWest Chair and Maribyrnong Councillor, Cr Susan Yengi, whose leadership has helped drive better outcomes for communities across Melbourne's west,” Mayor Semra continued.
This announcement reflects the importance of continued investment in services that support people experiencing homelessness and help address the challenges facing vulnerable residents.
The new outreach services are expected to commence later this year.
