Work is set to begin on Summerhill Road next month after the tender was awarded at the June Council Meeting.

This will be a significant upgrade of a key distributer road, and will help keep everyone safer on our streets.

During the works we will replace the road surface, old kerb and gutter and install new drainage between Ballarat Road and Essex Street.

We will also add four raised pedestrian crossings with no stopping zones.

These much-needed works are set to begin next month, with the contract awarded to Unyte Southern Pty Ltd, who will set up their site from early July.

At this stage we expect works to begin from mid-July and be completed by January 2027.

The road will be closed between Eden and Essex streets for approximately 90 days during a core construction period and detours and other traffic management will be in place while the much-needed upgrades happen.

“These works have been a long time coming and while we make this road smoother and safer for everyone there will be a big impact on local residents,” said Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra.

“Our staff and contractor will be working closely with local residents to minimise impacts wherever possible while these essential works happen.”

Project schedules and detailed information are being prepared now and will be available in the coming weeks.

Read more about the project, see the works area and find detours.
