Footscray set for a Slow Food takeover

Starting next month, Council and Slow Food Melbourne are bringing fresh food, local producers, food trucks and community spirit to the centre of Footscray’s CBD with a brand-new market.

Slow Foodscray builds on the popularity of Slow Food Melbourne’s markets in West Footscray and Edgewater, which have become much-loved destinations for fresh local produce, makers, food lovers and the wider community.

The new event will bring that same energy into Maddern Square in Footscray, celebrating local food, culture and community while activating the heart of the suburb.

Maribyrnong City Council Mayor, Cr Mohamed Semra said bringing more people into Footscray’s public spaces was an important part of the broader Footscray Revitalisation program.

“Great places come alive when people are out enjoying them. Activating key locations brings our community together, supports local businesses and creates vibrant public spaces where people feel welcome and safe.

“Slow Foodscray is exactly the kind of exciting activation we want to see as we continue revitalising Footscray – bringing people together around great food, culture and everything that makes this such a special part of Melbourne’s west.”

Slow Food Melbourne’s farmers’ markets already bring producers and communities together across West Footscray and Edgewater, with a focus on fresh, local and sustainable produce.

Now, Slow Foodscray will take that spirit into Footscray, giving locals and visitors another reason to eat, explore, shop and spend time in the city centre.

Slow Foodscray will be held the first Sunday of each month starting in September.
