Recovery update

Published 1 February 2019

EPA continues to advise people to avoid coming into contact with water from Stony Creek. Seek medical help if you feel unwell.

Specialist arborists are continuing to remove trees and other vegetation surrounding Stony Creek in sections and will be completed in the coming weeks. De-silting will be undertaken around the tree stumps which will be left in-situ.

The results from samples collected on 12 December are now on Environment Protection Authority’s (EPA) website. EPA officers continue to carry out regular inspections of the fire site to monitor compliance with statutory notices and ensure appropriate risk controls are in place.

Melbourne Water’s M102 Water Main Renewal Project is continuing through Cruickshank Park, last week pipe was laid under Stony Creek. The coffer dam was removed and the creek bed reinstated, with water flowing as normal. Temporary fencing is still in place in Cruickshank Park as the project team finalise pipe laying activity. All construction equipment, excluding the fenced laydown area will be removed over the next week as works move into Charlotte Street (east) from Monday 4 February. More information on the project’s progress is available on the Melbourne Water website.
