Recovery update

Improved weather this week has meant that the stockpiled contaminated material at the fire site has been treated and processed, ready to be removed off-site.
Further desilting of contaminated sediment in the Creek commenced this week from the fire site, working down towards Paramount Road. EPA and Melbourne Water continue to determine the next stage of deeper excavation work.
Monitoring results from 31 May are expected to be finalised by 14 June and published next week on the EPA website. The next round of sampling is also scheduled for 14 June. Melbourne Water continues to regularly monitor conditions in Stony Creek.
The Stony Creek Stakeholder Advisory Group meeting was held on 6 June, with EPA, Melbourne Water and Council presenting.
Work on the draft Stony Creek Rehabilitation Plan continues to progress. The draft plan is expected to be released for public feedback in July 2019 for three weeks.
Melbourne Water continues to develop the draft rehabilitation plan with input from the community, Council and EPA. The draft plan is expected to be released for public consultation in July. Community feedback will be incorporated into the final plan to ensure it aligns with their expectations, values and aspirations.
EPA’s ongoing advice is:
- Avoid contact with the water in Stony Creek.
- Don’t walk along the edge of Stony Creek.
- Don't let pets swim in the area or drink the water.
- As a precaution avoid eating fish from Stony Creek.
- Seek medical help if you feel unwell.
