Recovery update

Desilting works to remove contaminated sediment in the Creek is progressing well. So far sediment has been removed from a 450 metre length of the Creek from the fire site towards Paramount Road.
Desilting works from an 800 metre section of the Creek are expected to be complete by mid-July, weather permitting. As a result of the fire incident, this was the most heavily contaminated section of Stony Creek.
Melbourne Water continues to regularly monitor conditions in the Creek.
The Stony Creek Rehabilitation Plan continues to be developed with input from the community, Council and EPA. The ten-year plan will establish the foundation to help restore, enhance and protect the condition of Stony Creek and its surrounding environment into the future.
The draft plan is expected to be released for public feedback in July 2019 for three weeks. Community feedback will be incorporated into the final plan to ensure it aligns with their expectations, values and aspirations.
Council is also completing a Future Directions Plan that will be released for community comment in September.
EPA’s ongoing advice is:
- Avoid contact with the water in Stony Creek.
- Don’t walk along the edge of Stony Creek.
- Don't let pets swim in the area or drink the water.
- As a precaution avoid eating fish from Stony Creek.
- Seek medical help if you feel unwell.
