Emergency Management

As a Council we have a variety of Emergency Management responsibilities. This starts with working towards the prevention of emergencies, through to emergency response and helping our community recover from emergencies.

We work with government and community organisations during these phases of Emergency Management. This includes developing the following plans and guides.

At present we are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic as a community and following government direction.

Municipal Emergency Management Plan

Council’s Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP)(PDF, 5MB) addresses the prevention of, response to, and recovery from, emergencies within the City of Maribyrnong.

Maribyrnong Flood and Storm Plan

The Maribyrnong Storm and Flood Emergency Plan is a sub-plan of the MEMP, it was developed by VicSES and Council and provides comprehensive information of flood risks within the municipality. VicSES has also developed a local Flood Guide for the suburbs of Maribyrnong, Footscray and Yarraville which provides local flood information as well as tips on how to stay safe in a flood emergency and what items should be in every household flood emergency kit.

For these plans and more information on how to get ready for flood and storm emergencies visit the VicSES website.

VicEmergency

The VicEmergency website and app (available via the Apple App Store and Google Play) provides up to date information on emergencies across the state as they happen.  It also provides information on emergency forecasts and preparing for and recovering from emergencies. You can also call the hotline directly on 1800 226 226.
