LGBTIQA+ Community Advisory Committee

The Maribyrnong LGBTIQA+ Community Advisory Committee was established in 2022, to enable a process for greater engagement between Council and members of the local LGBTIQA+ community.

Council is seeking expressions of interest for membership to its LGBTIQA+ Community Advisory Committee.

Purpose

The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to advise Council on the needs and lived experiences of people who identify as part of the LGBTQA+ community in Maribyrnong.

Objectives

The Advisory Committee's objectives include:

To inform Council on the emerging needs, issues and barriers facing LGBTIQA+ people in Maribyrnong.
To consider and provide advice to Council on key initiatives, programs and best practice options on culturally safe and inclusive actions that address the needs of LGBTIQA+ people.
Contribute advice, insights and perspectives into the development of strategies, plans, policies relevant to the Committee’s focus.
To support Council’s commitment in promoting and advocating for equality, inclusion, diversity and human rights of LGBTIQA+ people within the wider context of the Maribyrnong community.

Frequency of meetings

The Advisory Committee will hold up to four (hybrid) meetings throughout the calendar year. Members are expected to attend each meeting either in person or online.

Membership

The Advisory Committee will comprise:

Up to three Councillor representatives
At least one senior Council Officer from Council's Community Life directorate
Up to 10 community members.
Up to three representatives from community controlled organisations, agencies or services providers.
