Cultural Diversity Week

Cultural Diversity Week brings Victorians together each March to celebrate the rich cultural diversity that shapes our state.

The 2026 theme, ‘Culture connects us all’, highlights how sharing intercultural stories and experiences fosters understanding, belonging and connection.

Maribyrnong is a proudly diverse community. Celebrating Cultural Diversity Week reflects our commitment to building an intercultural city — where people of all backgrounds feel welcome, included and able to participate in community life.

During the week, Council encourages, hosts and promotes local events and initiatives that celebrate culture and strengthen community connection.

Multicultural picnic

You’re invited to our beautiful picnic in the park during Cultural Diversity Week in 2026 at Ern Shepherd Reserve next to Maidstone Community Centre.

Community lunch: Eat together

Auslan Bilingual Story Time

Nurture a love of reading and help develop early literacy in both Auslan and English at our Auslan Bilingual Story Time.

Mahjong

Enjoy a relaxed weekly Mahjong group where you can jump straight into this classic Chinese tile game.

Qigong and Tai Chi

Join us in the Footscray Library Courtyard for Qigong and Tai Chi classes! These gentle and safe exercises, originating from China centuries ago, blend body movements, postures, breathing, and mental focus to promote overall health, fitness, and wellbeing.

Get Active Expo

The Get Active Expo is a completely free four-week program that offers a range of come and try sessions. This program is designed to showcase many of Maribyrnong's sport, recreation and wellbeing opportunities.

Bollywood Dance - Get Active Expo 2026

Join us for a vibrant Bollywood Dance class as part of Cultural Diversity Week and the Get Active Expo. This beginner‑friendly session blends classical Indian dance with folk, Latin and hip‑hop influences for a joyful full‑body workout.
