Plastic Free July Community Celebration

Living Future Expo 300x200.jpg

Celebrate our shared commitment to reducing single-use plastic at this free community event. Join fellow Maribyrnong residents who participated in the 2025 Plastic Free July Challenge.

There is something for everyone, including kids' activities, creative reuse rolling workshops, a showcase of Plastic Free July community-led projects, local climate action and sustainability groups, sustainable local businesses, plastic free alternatives, inspiration and snacks!

Featuring special guests:

  • Trash Puppets - Melbourne eco-arts organisation will entertain with their interactive puppet making workshops for all ages
  • World's Worst Wagga Guild - Get creative with Ruby and Fiona and use repurposed materials to learn a new skill, slow down and create something fun
  • Purple Rabbit Vegan Truck - Although they will be without the food truck, enjoy tasty plastic free treats from these local foodies
  • Footscray Community Garden & Learning Place - Don't miss their edible seedlings giveaway. Bring along your black plastic seedling punnets and tubes for them to reuse if you have a stockpile.
  • Parents for Climate - This West Melbourne-based group will run a kid's clothing swap! Bring along up to five (5) items your children no longer need (baby to aged 7) and take home what you need on the day. Please ensure items are washed and in excellent condition.
  • Flags to Bags - Showcasing their community-led upcycling and repurposing project.
  • Green Collect - Demonstrating their waste collection and circular economy impact locally and beyond
  • Climate Action Maribyrnong - Catch up with our local climate action group to see what they are up to and how you can get involved.
  • Maribyrnong Library of Things - Did you know that Maribyrnong Libraries have a Library of Things? Find out what you can borrow.
  • WeeFolk Toy Library - Will be there with a collection of toys to play with, and demonstrate what can be borrowed if you become a member.
  • Tot Hot or Not - Join local mum, sustainability advocate and Tot Hot or Not founder Joyce Watts for a sustainable party complete with reusable crockery and cutlery, edible decorations, secondhand lolly mugs, borrowed toys and games - and of course, cake from a local bakery!

This community event will be held inside at the new Civic Precinct and Community Hub. Drop by after school or work - fun for the whole family!
