Council has endorsed the Bike Sports Infrastructure Development Plan following two rounds of community engagement last year. The decision was made during tonight's Council meeting, making a notable step forward in our commitment to promoting cycling and enhancing active recreational opportunities for residents.

The Plan represents a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the development of bike sport facilities throughout the municipality, recognising that cycling infrastructure requires a regional and coordinated approach. By strategically locating infrastructure and implementing targeted expenditure, the plan aims to provide a diverse range of participation pathways for cycling enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

The draft Plan was shared with the community in late 2022, receiving 226 community contributions.

The sites identified for development of bike infrastructure include Quarry Park, Yarraville Pump Track, Cranwell Park, Robert Barrett Reserve, and Braybrook Park.

Each proposed development will require further planning and community engagement prior to implementation including Quarry Park, which will undergo a comprehensive master planning process to evaluate its feasibility.

Mayor, Cr Sarah Carter, said she believes this Plan will support our community to stay healthy and active.

“We know bike sports are a growing form of recreation in the City of Maribyrnong and a key driver for a lifelong connection to cycling. By endorsing the Bike Sports Infrastructure Development Plan, we can continue to foster an active and vibrant city, providing opportunities for our residents to embrace healthy lifestyles and enjoy the benefits of bike riding in formal and informal ways,” Mayor Carter said.
