Celebrate Cultural Diversity at the 2017 Footscray Diwali Festival

Savour the cultural delights of India with fabulous music and dance at Footscray Diwali, running on Sunday 22 October at Footscray Park.

The festival hails from India and is one of the most important cultural festivals for the Indian community. It celebrates the coming together of the community and has its own special rituals, traditions and ceremonies.

The 2017 Footscray Diwali will be a celebration of the traditional Diwali Festival and will bring Footscray Park to life with Bollywood dancing, cultural performances, children’s entertainment, traditional Indian clothing and jewelry stores and food stalls serving a variety of delicious Asian cuisine. There will also be a spectacular fireworks display at 8.15pm to round off the evening’s entertainment.

Organiser of the Festival and President of the Indian Cultural Association of Victoria, Raj Saini said: “We are very excited to bring all the magic and wonder of India’s much-loved Diwali – Festival of Lights to Footscray for the first time. We hope to bring audiences all the culture, nostalgia and celebration that are synonymous with Diwali in India.”

“We hope people from all across Melbourne come along and join us under the open sky for this beautiful and fun Indian tradition.”

This family-friendly, free festival also has lots on offer for the kids – including pony rides, face painting, balloon twisting, carnival rides, jumping castles, bubble shows and an animal petting zoo.
