Celebrating Neighbourhood House Week
Published on 03 May 2019
Neighbourhood House Week is taking place from 10-17 May in Victoria, and provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate the important role neighbourhood houses and community centres play in the community.
The theme of this year’s Neighbourhood House Week is ‘Bringing People Together – from your neighbourhood to your nation’.
Recent studies have shown that loneliness and feelings of disconnect are increasingly prevalent in society, contributing to a myriad of related problems.
Neighbourhood houses and community centres work at the heart of the community, offering activities, programs and services that support the objectives of social inclusion and address factors that can lead to social exclusion: in short, they bring people together, help combat loneliness and provide the human connection that is so vital to health and wellbeing.
A range of activities and events will be offered at Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses across the City of Maribyrnong to showcase the variety of programs and activities currently being offered to the community.

Neighbourhood House Victoria statistics show that approximately 190,000 people visit neighbourhood houses and community centres across Victoria. These spaces are vital for creating a sense of belonging within our community as they provide opportunities for learning and connection through educational, recreational and support activities in a supportive and inclusive environment. I encourage everyone to take part in the Neighbourhood House Week activities!
