‘Tis the season to be jolly with many festive activities for the whole family! Follow the paste up trail of our cheeky Christmas characters, sing your heart out in support of your favourite suburb, download our MARIality app to watch murals come to life and enter our colouring competition to win a visit from Santa to your house. MARIality
Start our Christmas program with our new initiative, MARIality. This app brings selected murals around our City to life. Download the app to your phone, then direct the MARIality app towards the mural and watch as augmented reality technology brings it to life.
The app is also home to a fun activity that turns our regular Christmas colouring sheet into a 3D piece of moving art. The colouring sheet can be entered into a competition, where the winner receives a visit from Santa. Visit our website for details and colouring sheet.
The locations of the augmented reality murals are:
- Maidstone: 1 Commercial Street – Four Crows by Justine McAllister @justinemcallister
- Seddon: Young Street - Crazy Critters curated by Ross Thomasson on behalf of the Seddon Vet Hospital and featuring artists like: @heesco, @putospaint, @caper.aust and @dvate amongst others.
- West Footscray: 547B Barkly Street – Buzz Barber Jungle by Makatron
- Yarraville: Canterbury Street – Trugo Tram by Peter McMahon
Santa and Sirens
Enter our Christmas colouring competition through the MARIality app to win a personal visit to your home from Santa and helpers on board a vintage fire engine.
How to enter:
- Download the MARIality app
- Collect a colouring sheet from participating local stores or download from our website
- Colour in and enjoy your masterpiece in 3D by using the app
- Enter your details via the app as prompted at the end of the 3D display. Be sure to get an adult's approval.*
*Entrants U18 must provide contact details of a guardian as part of their submission.
All winners will be notified by Friday 10 December. COVID-Safe plans will be in place for all Santa visits. Visit the website for more information. Competition opens Friday 12 November and closes 7 December 2021.
Christmas e-carol - 12 Days of Christmas
Last year we launched our own 12 Days of Christmas carol that gives a shout out to each of our suburbs. Get into the Christmas spirit by singing along to the lyrics, record and send it to us. We’ll incorporate your clips into our 12 Days of Christmas video for 2021 and show it on our Facebook page and website. Entry opens Friday 12 November and closes Friday 17 December.
Cute Christmas Paste ups and Christmas trees
Christmas characters will be popping up throughout our business districts. See if you can find them all featuring sweet mouse and her friends. There are 30 paste ups to find! Our Christmas Trees will also be up in Nicholson Street Mall, Footscray and the Town Hall will again be lit up as part of festivities. Christmas is always an exciting time and this year the City of Maribyrnong is going all out. There’s plenty on the festive calendar to engage and entertain including new innovative interactive activities through our very own MARIality app. It’s a great addition to the amazing program of activities, making the most of the many wonderful murals that enliven our City!
